Crosswalk painting & solstice s'mores

Hello Falls Church Forward!

We hope everyone had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend! We have lots of upcoming events and news to share. Here's a quick run down:

Events

🎨 Crosswalk painting on June 2 - Help refresh the rainbow paint on the crosswalks at City Hall (3 crosswalks total) for Pride Month. Please fill out this form by Friday May 31 at 12pm to RSVP. (Rain date is June 9th).

🍫 Solstice S'mores on June 21 - Join us for s'mores and socializing at Cherry Hill Park! We've reserved the pavilion from 5pm to 8pm. Please RSVP so we can make sure everyone gets a s'more! Falls Church City's Ed Henderson will be there to read a passage from his new book "The Grandfather of Black Basketball," which will be available for purchase at the event.

Updates

🏠 City Council kickoff of ADUs - Our community discussion of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) was officially launched on Monday, May 20. Up for discussion: where they should be allowed, rules for heights, size and setbacks, how they can be used, and more! Check out the kickoff staff report to see how our current ADU rules compare to our neighbors', and AARP's The ABCs of ADUs for more background on this small but mighty housing type.

🍂🍃Leave the leaves campaign planning - A working group is developing an informational "Leave the Leaves" flyer for distribution this fall to all homes in the city with a yard. A draft is underway but in the meantime, many of you have provided helpful resources, check them out here. And contact Pat if you want to help out!

🫶 📔 Welcoming packet for new neighbors - We've started organizing weekly meetings to plan a welcome packet and sort out all the things we wished we knew when we moved to Falls Church! Here's a post we're using for inspiration. We're aiming to have a rough draft ready this summer, but if you have any thoughts you'd like to share ahead of time, contact David with ideas.

🦅🌳 Wildlife Habitat Certification -  Want to help out, but don't have much time? Have a big impact by keeping Falls Church a Certified Wildlife Habitat with just 5-7 hours per year (and from the comfort of your home). Send an email to Justine if you'd be willing to help with our certification efforts!
