June Happy Hour and Member Meeting, Virginia Village, and Farmers Market Expansion

Happy June Falls Church Forward,

Thanks to everyone who attended our May happy hour with Bike Falls Church--we had a great turnout and were glad to share more about each other's work and make some new friends in the process. Thanks also to everyone who sent in a letter or provided public comment at the City Council meeting last month regarding Virginia Village. Hearing diverse voices is so important and ensures equitable representation of our community.

See below for some upcoming events and ways to continue getting involved:

๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜๏ธJune Happy Hour + Member Meeting, Thursday, June 18th, 6 pm-8 pm, Cafe Zevian, 700 W Broad St, Falls Church, VA 22046

Join us and members of the Social Justice Committee for our June happy hour from 6 pm-7 pm followed by our member meeting from 7 pm-8 pm featuring a presentation on Virginia Village by the city's planning director, Matt Mattauszek. There will be great drink specials, new neighbors to meet, and important conversations regarding the future of affordable housing in Falls Church.

๐Ÿ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ”‘ Supporting Housing for All- Send a letter, sign up to give public comment or sign the petition to support the Virginia Village RFP

On June 22nd, City Council will decide whether to issue a request for proposals to explore affordable housing and mixed-income development options for Virginia Village. Please consider attending this meeting to give public comment (in person or virtually), submitting a letter, or signing and sharing the petition linked below. The redevelopment of Virginia Village would help keep Falls Church welcoming to teachers, nurses, service workers, firefighters, seniors, and others who increasingly struggle to afford living here. This process represents a historic, once-in-a-generation opportunity for our Little City and we are uniquely positioned to leverage public land for the greater public good.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ›’ Farmers Market Expansion

Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition for a farmers market expansion pilot--weโ€™ve received over 400 signatures! The petition has been shared with various Boards + Commissions and FCF continues to engage with city staff to determine how a market expansion can best serve all partners. We look forward to sharing it with the City Council in the coming months!

Cheers,
Naudy, Pat, Evan, Andrea, Justine, Ross, and Letty
