1. Volunteer teams: Would you be willing to help us figure out messaging or outreach?
Messaging Team: We need help with content and design for the website, blurbs, and flyers. What made you decide to join FCF? Use those words to get others to join!
Outreach Team: Once we have flyers, signs, and blurbs, we need help getting the word out. Help us post signs and figure out how to reach people in the community.
If you can help (and you haven't already signed up for a team), please click on the check mark for one of the options below (or reply to this email).
2. Jeff Speck will be in town on March 17th. A group of us may voyage to his event in DC-- let me know if you'd like to join!
If you aren't familiar with his work, I suggest watching this short clip from a doc about him, or checking out his book Walkable City Rules (I have some extra copies if anyone wants to borrow it). His book contains a great guide for "best practices"-- including topics of streetscaping, zoning, parking and general city design-- to create walkable areas that foster community!
Separately, I reached out to Jeff about giving a talk in Falls Church, and he said he could give us a tailored lecture with specific Falls Church actions/recommendations to improve walkability, affordability, or any other topics we wish to raise. His goal with his lectures is to instigate change. If this is something we want, the custom lecture does come at a cost, so we would need to partner with other groups to raise funds.
3. Next events:
There will be a T-Zone Town Hall on March 22nd (time TBD), please pencil it in on your calendars to attend!
FCF encourages policies that generate more diverse housing choices, welcome new residents to our community, support our small businesses, promote more sustainable urban design, and foster new opportunities for placemaking and walkable neighborhoods. Please sign the T-Zone petition, if you haven't done so already.
In April we are planning to co-host an event featuring a guest speaker from AARP's Livable Communities group.
If you have any ideas for events, please let us know!
