April updates and more

April updates and more
Hello! Happy April!
It's been a while since we all got together, but don't worry, we have a bunch of events coming up in late April and May-- we hope you can join us for some of all of them:

FALLS CHURCH FORWARD EVENTS

May 7th 4PM
How can we make Falls Church more livable and accessible for people of all ages? Join us for food and discussion with Jane King from AARP's Livable Communities program. We'll talk about how we can get people where they want to go, whether or not they own a car, how we can design public spaces that foster interactions and relationships, how we can provide a variety of housing options and build places where people can live, work, shop and access healthcare. Co-sponsored by Falls Church Forward, the League of Women Voters and Falls Church Human Services Advisory Council. RSVP HERE

May 29th 1:15PM
Let's celebrate streets that are safe for all ages and abilities!
Join Falls Church Forward and Bike Falls Church in the Memorial Day parade. Bring your bike, scooter, wagon, other wheels, walking shoes or whatever you want to show off. Kids and adults are welcome! You must RSVP to join-- sign up HERE by April 25th.

We may hold a community potluck and/or a lentil party soon :) If you have any other ideas for events or speakers, let us know!

POLICY MEETINGS
April 24 7:30PM
City Council work session on T-Zones. For the latest updates on the proposal check out the Town Hall presentation PDF. While this is a work session, there will be public comment at the beginning of the meeting. Check out this link for meeting updates.

April 17, 24, 26 and more
Budget Season is underway! This is a great time to make sure the city is putting its money where its mouth is!
Here is the link to information on upcoming budget meetings.
A few things to note regarding FCF priorities:
-- There isn't funding for new bike lanes
-- The affordable housing rental subsidy will be expanded to include units at 30% AMI
-- A consultant has been hired to create a plan for climate targets
If there are things you think we should advocate for in the city budget, please let me know and we can push for them together!

COMMUNITY EVENTS

April 23 2PM
Karma Yoga is hosting its Monthly Community Service Falls Church Cleanup. This is a great way to meet neighbors and to help keep our public spaces clean. Join for 15 minutes or an hour as we make our way through the city to pick up trash and debris.

May 19-21

Bike Falls Church is piloting a "Bike & Walk Everywhere Weekend" in conjunction with Bike to Work Day. Bike to... the Library, the Farmer's Market, a few churches, Work, and hopefully School. Bike Falls Church would love your help in recruiting other destinations - businesses, places of worship, etc. Reach out to me if you know an organization that might be interested!
They will publish a map of the safe(r) bike routes in the City and the Bike/Walk Everywhere Weekend destinations and will give the organizations involved a bit of help with collateral to advertise it with their networks (customers, congregants, etc.).
