Welcoming Week, Housing For All, and a Summer of Lentils

We have a lot of things going on this month:
️ Harvey's Yacht Club
Saturday Sept 16th 1-5pm
We're excited to co-sponsor the first annual Yacht Club fundraiser in support of Welcoming Falls Church, whose mission aligns with one of our pillars. Join us at Harvey's to celebrate Welcoming Week with all you can eat and drink, including a roast and oysters. Get your tickets here.

 FCF Housing Affordability and Diversity
Sunday Sept 17th 4pm
Join us for bites and discussion at our next get-together focused on our pillar of Housing For All. We'll talk about the current state of housing in Falls Church, affordable housing initiatives that are underway, the driving forces behind housing price increases, and what actions cities and states can take. We'll also discuss the Quinn Project (the senior housing development slated for S Washington St, full document here)-- please read up and think about your feedback! RSVP here.

 Fall Festival
Saturday Sept 23rd 10am-4pm
Keep an eye out for our table at the Fall Festival! If you're available to help us give out jelly beans, encourage kids to draw bike paths to school, and assist with other activities, let us know here. An hour or two of your time could help a lot!

City Hall Happenings
On September 6th at 7:30 the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing and vote on T-zones and a work session on the Quinn Project. On September 11th at 7:30pm City Council will have the second reading and vote on T-zones.

 MoCo Housing Learning Opportunity
Did you know that Montgomery County "has led the country in affordable housing innovations"? Check out this NYT feature article about it. Let us know if you'd be interested to learn more about the work they're doing.

Lentilpalooza recap
Thank you to the 70 people who signed up for our very first lentil potluck! It was great seeing all of the creative lentil innovations: We had lentil muffins, lentil tacos, lentil ricotta cake, lentil salad, sweet and sour lentil meatballs, lentil curries, lentil ice cream.  Check out some of the pictures here, our favorite recipes here, and read our lentil poem here :)

  Beyond...
We're aiming to do a Kidical Mass Halloween Bike Ride (check out Arlington's!) and some Food Tasting Tours of Falls Church soon, hopefully. We'll keep you posted, and reply here if you're interested in helping organize either one!
